Stilleness Guest House

Michihiro Matsuo

Architecture, Building and Structure Design Stilleness Guest House by Michihiro Matsuo The constraints of the extremely small urban plot are overcome through a multi layered spatial configuration in the vertical direction. The texture of the roof tiles on the exterior walls and the lattice at the entrance function as delicate screens that block out the surrounding noise. Inside, the line of sight is controlled around the central courtyard, and traditional elements such as the Goemon bath and alcove are precisely incorporated into a sharp frame. The contrast of materials and the calculated flow of movement present a new style of Japanese living in contemporary urban spaces.
